what we collect
when you use mochi, we collect: • your phone number (used to identify your account and send/receive iMessages) • meal logs: text descriptions, photos, and voice notes you send to mochi • nutrition data derived from your logs (calories, macros, meal timestamps) • body metrics you voluntarily share (weight logs) • water intake logs • onboarding data: your name, calorie goal, dietary preferences, and allergies • streak and activity data • inbound and outbound iMessage content processed through our server
how we use your data
we use your data exclusively to: • provide the mochi calorie tracking and coaching service • generate responses, nutrition estimates, and daily/weekly recaps • send proactive check-ins and nudges (max tier) • render shareable streak cards and summary images • improve nutrition lookup accuracy over time we do not sell your data. we do not use your data for advertising.
iMessage access
mochi receives iMessages you send to the mochi number via Photon, a third-party iMessage relay service. messages are processed on our servers to generate responses. message content is stored in our database to maintain context across sessions and to compute daily/weekly summaries. we do not read any iMessages outside of conversations with the mochi number.
third-party services
mochi uses the following third-party services to operate: • OpenAI — AI model for meal recognition and response generation. your meal descriptions and photos may be sent to OpenAI's API for processing. see openai.com/privacy. • Convex — database and backend hosting for storing your account, meal logs, and settings. see convex.dev/privacy. • Photon — iMessage relay service for sending and receiving messages. see photon's terms for data handling. • USDA FoodData Central — public nutrition database used for calorie/macro lookups. no personal data is sent. • Open Food Facts — open nutrition database used for barcode lookups. no personal data is sent.
data retention
we retain your account data and meal logs for as long as your account is active. if you cancel your subscription and request deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days. anonymized, aggregated nutrition data (no name, no phone number) may be retained for service improvement.
your rights
you have the right to: • request a copy of all data we hold about you • request correction of inaccurate data • request deletion of your account and all associated data • opt out of proactive messages by texting "stop nudges" to mochi to exercise any of these rights, text "delete my data" to mochi or email us at the address below.
children
mochi is not intended for users under 13. we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. if you believe a child has registered, contact us and we will delete the account immediately.
changes to this policy
we may update this policy. if changes are material, we will notify you via iMessage. continued use of mochi after changes constitutes acceptance.
